While they were carrying out the plan that Jesus had set in place, dark times fell on them. In the very midst of doing what they needed to do and what they believed Jesus had told them to do, things got scary. The sun was no longer shining. The winds were blowing, and the sea was getting fiercer. It was around 3:00 am (Matthew 14:25), and they were in the middle of a giant storm in a little row boat.
Have you ever felt like that? Like you were doing everything you knew to do, but the waves around you just got bigger and bigger? And that’s not even the worst part, because God isn’t in site? It’s a sick feeling to think that you are just about done for, that life’s waves are about to crash down on you, and you are all alone.
Yet despite the wind, the raging sea, and their fear, the disciples continued ahead. They were scared, but they pressed on. And get this. As if on cue, Jesus showed up and rescued them before the waves crashed down and took them under.
Pray:
Lord, Scripture says that you will never give us more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Help me to live as though I believe this is true. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
